Education

The future looks as bright as the past and present. Our leaders are aware that an educated citizenry is the only way to progress in the 21st century. Preparing our children for the transition between school and the workplace is a top priority. The Griffin-Spalding County Board of Education currently operates 17 schools (eleven elementary, four middle and two high schools) and employs approximately 1500 people; of whom, more than 800 are certified teachers, support personnel and administrators. Over 65 percent of the certified employees hold   advanced degrees.

With four private schools available, during the 2006-2007 school year, there were 10,561 students enrolled in the public school system (representing 91% of students). That year, the county experienced a dropout rate of 6.8% in grades 9th - 12th and an average daily attendance of 94%.

Adding to our ability to serve both residents and the business community, Griffin Technical College contributes by offering top quality technical and vocational instruction in a number of fields. The Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce - in conjunction with the Board of Education - sponsors Partners in Education, a program whose purpose it is to improve the quality of education and has won five State Excellence Awards and has been recognized nationally for its results.

High schools offer two curricula: Technology/Career-Preparatory Education and College Preparatory. A number of two-year and four-year degree programs are offered at several universities within driving distance.
